What I Said
I rated FTNT a Sell because I thought the valuation was already pricing in a stronger growth profile than the company had actually delivered. My core point was that revenue growth at 20.1% was solid, but not enough to justify the premium if the next leg of acceleration did not show up soon.
I also argued that the bull case depended on revenue growth moving back above 25.0% while margins stayed near 31.3% and free cash flow moved closer to $2B. On the downside, I said the call would be challenged if growth slipped below 15.0% for two straight quarters or if margins drifted toward the low 20s.

Why It’s Working (Or Not)
Over this tracking window, following my Sell would have earned 12.9%, which means the short side has worked. FTNT has moved lower while the peer group has been mostly higher, with several comparables posting solid gains and only a few names showing weakness, so the stock has underperformed the broader set of security peers I was watching.
That lines up with my original concern that the premium multiple was ahead of the growth line. The specific growth hurdle I highlighted was 25.0%, and the market has not rewarded the stock as if that stronger acceleration were already in hand.
The result also supports my view that the valuation was vulnerable before the 2026 spending cycle had fully proven itself. This is not a huge collapse, but it is enough to say the bearish setup has been validated to date rather than disproven.
What Could Still Prove Me Wrong
If FTNT reaccelerates back above the 25.0% revenue-growth level I cited and holds that pace, I would have to revisit the Sell. I would also be wrong if margins stay near the 31.3% area while free cash flow keeps scaling toward $2B, because that would make the premium easier to defend.
A second way to invalidate my call would be if the stock starts to re-rate higher even as the peer group remains mixed, showing that investors are willing to pay up for FTNT despite the slower growth profile I flagged.
