What I Said

I rated FTNT a Sell because I thought the valuation was already pricing in a stronger growth reacceleration than the company had actually delivered. My core point was that the moat, margins, and cash generation were real, but they did not fully justify paying up for revenue growth of 20.1% when the market seemed to be assuming a faster next leg.

I also framed the bear case around a simple threshold: if growth slipped below 15.0% for two straight quarters, the multiple would be hard to defend, and if margins drifted toward the low 20s, the 2026 spending step-up would look less productive. In short, I was betting that the valuation was ahead of the evidence.

Why It’s Working (Or Not)

This call has not worked over the tracking window: a short position would have lost 14.4% as FTNT moved higher from my entry price. That means the market has not rewarded the bearish valuation gap I highlighted; instead, it has continued to assign FTNT a premium despite my concern that 20.1% growth was not peer-leading enough to justify it.

The peer set has been mixed, but several of the faster security names have also moved higher, which makes FTNT’s strength look more like part of a broader favorable read-through for the group than a clean validation of my caution. Even so, the specific thesis point I can test here is the price/expectations mismatch, and the stock’s rise shows that mismatch has not pressured the shares the way I expected.

The original bear case about the market paying for growth that had not yet accelerated has therefore not been validated by price action. On this evidence, my Sell was incorrect to date.

What Could Still Prove Me Wrong

If FTNT can show that revenue growth is reaccelerating above the 25.0% level I cited while operating margin stays near 31.3%, that would directly undercut my valuation argument. I would also be wrong if the company keeps growth comfortably above 15.0% for the next two quarters and the market continues to treat the premium multiple as justified.

The other clear falsifier is margin compression: if operating margin starts moving toward the low 20s, that would confirm the 2026 spending cycle is not translating into enough future revenue. Any combination of stronger growth and stable profitability would make my Sell thesis harder to defend.
