What I Said
I rated SOUN a sell because I thought the company’s revenue growth was still outrunning its ability to fund itself, even though the core product looked viable. My focus was on the gap between a 42.3% gross margin and the much weaker operating and cash-flow profile, especially the -75.9% operating margin and -$45.5M in levered free cash flow. I also thought the 11.8x EV/revenue multiple was too rich relative to peers that were generating better cash flow.

Why It’s Working (Or Not)
A short position would have earned 33.4% over this tracking window, so the sell call has worked to date. The stock’s decline also stands in contrast to the peer set, which was broadly higher over the same stretch, so SOUN did not just drift down with the group. That supports my original concern that the market was paying up for a business that still had not shown self-funding economics. The part of the thesis that has held up best is the cash-burn and profitability gap, not the product quality argument, which I never doubted.
What Could Still Prove Me Wrong
I would be wrong if SOUN starts showing the operating leverage I was waiting for: operating margin moving meaningfully toward breakeven and free cash flow burn narrowing materially from the -$45.5M level I cited. I would also reassess if revenue growth stays strong while the valuation compresses enough that the 11.8x EV/revenue multiple no longer implies a big premium for distant profitability. If the company can demonstrate that scale is translating into a clear step-down in cash burn, my bearish case would weaken materially.
