What I Said
I argued that SoundHound’s product differentiation, patent position, and relatively clean balance sheet were not enough to offset the fact that the business was still posting negative margins and negative cash flow. My core view was that the stock was priced for a much faster move to operating leverage than the reported numbers justified, so I expected the shares to underperform on a short basis unless that earnings and cash-generation gap closed quickly.

Why It’s Working (Or Not)
So far, that short call has worked: if I had shorted SOUN at my entry price, I would be up about 3.8% on the position. The stock has drifted lower while the peer set has been mixed to mostly higher, which is consistent with my view that SOUN was more vulnerable than many of its comparable software names. The specific thesis point that has held up is the valuation-versus-fundamentals gap; I have not seen evidence in this window that negative margins and negative cash flow have already turned into durable operating leverage. At the same time, this is still only a modest move, so I cannot claim the thesis has been fully proven by price alone.
What Could Still Prove Me Wrong
I would be wrong if SoundHound starts showing that revenue growth is translating into sustained margin improvement and positive cash generation faster than I expected. If the company can narrow losses materially, improve operating cash flow, and show that the valuation is being backed by real earnings power rather than just a story, that would directly challenge my original call. A sharp re-rating driven by those fundamentals, especially while peers remain mixed, would be the clearest evidence that my short thesis was too early or too pessimistic.
