What I Said
I rated WGS a Sell because I thought the business quality was better than it used to be, but the operating results still were not converting that moat into self-funding earnings. My original note pointed to the gap between 69.4% gross margin and the still-negative TTM operating margin and free cash flow margin, and I said I wanted to see positive free cash flow and a sustained margin inflection before I would back away from a bearish view.

Why It’s Working (Or Not)
Over this tracking window, following the Sell would have earned a 13.0% gain on the short side, so the call has worked to date. The stock has also moved lower while the peer group has been broadly higher, which fits my view that WGS was not yet translating its moat into the kind of operating leverage the market was rewarding elsewhere. The specific concern I highlighted — that revenue growth was not yet turning into self-funding earnings — has been consistent with the price action, because the market has not treated the valuation as if that margin inflection were already in hand. I would not call this a full victory yet, but the evidence so far supports the bearish stance I took.
What Could Still Prove Me Wrong
I would be wrong if WGS starts showing the kind of sustained operating inflection I said I needed to see: positive free cash flow, improving operating margin, and a clear step-up in growth that makes the current valuation easier to justify. I would also reassess if the stock begins to behave like the stronger peers in this group while WGS itself stops diverging on price. If the company can show that collections and reimbursement are no longer dragging on cash generation, that would directly undercut my original Sell thesis.
