What I Said
I rated DOCN a sell because I thought the stock was pricing in a cash-conversion story that the business had not yet delivered. My focus was on the gap between strong revenue growth and weak cash generation: levered free cash flow was still negative, net debt/EBITDA was 3.9x, and the valuation sat at 17.5x EV/revenue and 75.9x forward P/E.
Peer Comparison
| Company | Return Since Entry |
|---|---|
| DOCN (this call) | -21.9% |
| CTSH | +17.4% |
| DXC | +54.4% |
| EPAM | +25.8% |
| KD | +25.6% |
| RXT | -25.3% |
Why It’s Working (Or Not)
Over this tracking window, following my sell call would have earned 21.9%, which means the short thesis has worked to date. The stock has fallen from my entry price, and that move is consistent with my view that the market was paying too much for a cash profile that had not yet improved. The peer set has been mixed to higher overall, which makes DOCN’s decline stand out rather than look like a broad group move. That supports the specific part of my thesis that valuation and cash conversion were the key pressure points, not just a weak sector tape.
What Could Still Prove Me Wrong
I would turn less negative if DOCN shows levered free cash flow turning positive and keeps it there for two to three quarters, because that would validate the cash-conversion inflection I said was missing. I would also reconsider if revenue growth stays above the 20% level while leverage stops worsening and net debt/EBITDA moves back down instead of toward 4.5x. If those conditions do not show up and cash generation remains negative, the original sell case remains intact.
