What I Said

I argued that BW looked like a recovery story that was already priced for success, even though the operating picture had not yet improved enough to justify that optimism. My focus was on the weak cash generation, the -$66.8M Q1 2026 EBITDA print, and the 2026 debt maturity as the key overhangs, with the bull case depending on backlog conversion, margin stabilization, and refinancing.

Why It’s Working (Or Not)

So far, that Sell call has worked: if I had shorted BW at my entry price, I would be up 55.9% on the position. The stock has fallen sharply while the peer group has been mixed, with several comparables also down but a few still higher, which tells me BW has not simply moved with the whole group. More importantly, the specific risks I highlighted have not been disproven by the price action; the market is still treating the recovery as unproven rather than rewarding it. I do not know from this data whether backlog conversion or refinancing has improved, but the equity move is consistent with my view that the valuation was ahead of the cash flow.

What Could Still Prove Me Wrong

I could still be wrong if BW shows clear evidence that the turnaround is becoming real: sustained positive operating cash flow, a meaningful improvement from the -$66.8M EBITDA level, and visible progress on refinancing the 2026 maturity. If backlog converts into margin expansion without new execution issues, that would weaken the core of my thesis. A successful refinancing paired with improving cash generation would be the clearest sign that the recovery is finally catching up to the stock.
