What I Said
I argued that ADTN was a fragile turnaround story: the stock needed revenue stabilization, margin recovery, and stronger free cash flow before the valuation discount could look compelling. In my conclusion, I pointed to revenue in the high-$200M range, negative operating margin, and only $24.8M of levered free cash flow as the reasons I stayed at Sell rather than moving to a more constructive stance.

Why It’s Working (Or Not)
Following the Sell call would have earned 3.9% over this tracking window, so the bearish signal has worked to date. That lines up with my original view that the turnaround still needed more proof, because the stock has not rewarded the market with a cleaner re-rating. The peer set has been mixed, with several comparables also lower but others posting solid gains, which makes ADTN’s weakness look more like company-specific underperformance than a broad group move. The specific caution I highlighted around fragile cash generation and an unproven revenue base has held up enough for the Sell to remain justified at this point.
What Could Still Prove Me Wrong
I would be wrong if ADTN shows the kind of operating progress I said I needed to see: revenue holding above $290M for two straight quarters and levered free cash flow moving above $40M over the next twelve months. A sustained move toward positive operating margin would also undercut the bearish case, because it would show the cost structure is finally being absorbed rather than merely offset. If revenue slips back below $280M in a quarter and EBITDA falls under $20M, that would reinforce the downside risk I flagged and keep the Sell intact.
