What I Said

I argued that Boston Scientific was still a constructive buy because the operating picture was improving across growth, profitability, and cash flow. I pointed to Q1 2026 revenue growth of 11.6%, EBITDA growth of 32.3%, and net income growth of 99.0%, plus $2,807.1M in trailing free cash flow, and I said the valuation looked reasonable if management could keep margins expanding while integrating acquisitions. The main risks I highlighted were reimbursement pressure and execution on acquisition-led expansion.

MDT+15.2%
SYK+7.9%
ZBH+14.4%

Why It’s Working (Or Not)

So far, following my buy call would have earned about 6.6%, which means the stock has moved in the direction I wanted. The peer group has been mixed to higher overall, but BSX has still held up well alongside names like EW, MDT, SYK, and ZBH, which supports my view that the company’s fundamentals were not a one-off story. I do not think the result yet proves the full thesis, but the specific evidence I cited — strong revenue, EBITDA, and free cash flow growth — has not been contradicted by the price action. What I cannot claim yet is that reimbursement risk or acquisition execution has been fully validated, because those were the swing factors that could still change the story.

What Could Still Prove Me Wrong

If revenue growth slows materially from the 11.6% pace I cited, or if margin expansion stalls instead of continuing, that would weaken the core of my thesis. I would also reconsider the call if reimbursement pressure starts showing up in results or if acquisition integration begins to hurt profitability and cash flow rather than support them. A clear deterioration in free cash flow from the $2,807.1M TTM level would be another concrete sign that my original view was too optimistic.
