What I Said
I rated FLNC Sell because I thought the company still had to prove it could turn its software and installed-base advantage into durable cash generation. My original concern was that the business was growing, but not yet funding itself: revenue was rising, while EBITDA and levered free cash flow were still negative, and the balance sheet was leaning on financing support. I also pointed to the 115.9 GW pipeline and 7.5 GW contracted backlog as evidence that demand existed, but not necessarily that it would convert into profitable cash flow.
Peer Comparison
| Company | Return Since Entry |
|---|---|

| ENVX | -41.9% |
| ESS | -3.1% |
| STEM | -46.5% |
Why It’s Working (Or Not)
Following the Sell has earned 60.5% over this tracking window, so the bearish call has been rewarded clearly to date. The specific issue I highlighted — that backlog and revenue growth were not yet translating into self-funded cash generation — has held up in the stock’s price action, and the market has treated that execution risk as real. The peer group has also been mostly lower over the same stretch, which fits the idea that FLNC was not an isolated case, but FLNC’s decline has been especially sharp relative to that mixed group. The 39.0% short interest I cited as part of the setup also fits the original framing: the stock was vulnerable if the market stopped giving it credit for a recovery story before the operating model proved itself.
What Could Still Prove Me Wrong
If FLNC starts showing that revenue growth is converting into durable cash generation, that would challenge my thesis directly. I would also reconsider if operating margin turns positive and levered free cash flow moves materially above the negative levels I cited, because that would show the business is no longer relying on financing to support growth. A sustained improvement in backlog conversion, rather than just a large pipeline headline, would be the clearest sign that the original Sell call was too cautious.
