What I Said

I rated RRGB a Sell because I thought leverage and negative free cash flow still dominated the equity story, even after the Q1 2026 revenue rebound to $378.3M and EBITDA of $20.9M. My view was that the balance sheet remained the main problem, with $502.4M of debt, only $22M of operating cash flow, and a 0.71x current ratio making the setup fragile despite the apparently cheap 0.6x EV/revenue multiple.

Why It’s Working (Or Not)

Over this tracking window, following my Sell would have earned 7.4%, which means the bearish call has been rewarded to date. The stock has moved lower while the peer group has also been mostly down, but RRGB’s decline still fits the original thesis that leverage and cash flow were the key pressure points rather than the valuation multiple alone. The specific concern I highlighted — that the company could not yet support its debt load comfortably — has not been contradicted by the price action. I would not call the thesis fully proven yet, but the market has moved in the direction I expected for a short idea.

What Could Still Prove Me Wrong

I would be wrong if quarterly EBITDA moves and stays above $25M while the company secures refinancing on workable terms, because that would show the operating rebound is strong enough to support the balance sheet. I would also reassess if levered free cash flow turns positive and net debt/EBITDA keeps moving materially lower, since that would weaken the core leverage argument behind my Sell. If instead EBITDA slips back toward the prior level or refinancing becomes more strained, that would reinforce the original call rather than challenge it.
