What I Said

I argued that BW looked like a recovery story with real contract visibility, but that the balance sheet and cash flow still mattered more than the narrative. My specific concern was that Q1 2026 EBITDA was still deeply negative, operating cash flow was negative on a trailing basis, and the 2026 debt maturity left refinancing as the key overhang. I also said the equity was already pricing in a turnaround that had not yet shown up in cash generation.

Why It’s Working (Or Not)

So far, that Sell call has worked: if I had shorted BW at my entry price, I would be up 44.3% over the month. The stock has fallen sharply while the peer set has been mixed to weaker overall, which tells me BW has not simply moved with a uniformly strong group; it has instead diverged in a way that supports my caution. The original thesis about weak EBITDA, negative operating cash flow, and the 2026 debt maturity has not been disproven by the price action. I cannot claim the refinancing risk is resolved or that margin stabilization has arrived, because the only evidence I have here is the market’s continued skepticism.

What Could Still Prove Me Wrong

What could still prove me wrong is a clear operating inflection that changes the cash story: EBITDA turning sustainably positive, operating cash flow moving toward breakeven, and management showing credible progress on the 2026 maturity. If BW were to secure refinancing on workable terms and then demonstrate backlog conversion without further execution issues, that would directly challenge my thesis. Absent that, the burden remains on the company to show that the recovery is real rather than just priced in.
