What I Said
I rated FTNT a Sell because I thought the valuation was already pricing in a stronger growth profile than the company had actually delivered. My original call leaned on the gap between a premium multiple and revenue growth of 20.1%, plus the idea that the 2026 spending cycle had not yet proven it could lift growth enough to justify that premium.
I also said I would get more constructive only if revenue growth reaccelerated above 25.0% while operating margin stayed near 31.3% and free cash flow moved closer to $2B. On the downside, I flagged sub-15.0% revenue growth for two straight quarters or a margin slide toward the low 20s as signs that the valuation case was breaking.

Why It’s Working (Or Not)
So far, following my Sell has earned 1.66%, which means the short side has worked modestly and the stock has moved in the direction I wanted. That outcome is consistent with my core thesis that the premium valuation was ahead of the growth evidence, even if the move has been small enough that I would not call it a decisive win yet.
The peer set has been mixed: some comparable security names have been down, but several have been up strongly over the same stretch. That mix matters because FTNT has not simply risen with the stronger names, which supports my view that the market has not yet rewarded it for the kind of acceleration I said was needed.
What has been validated most clearly is the valuation/growth mismatch I pointed to, not a dramatic deterioration in the business itself. I have not seen evidence here that revenue growth has reaccelerated above 25.0% or that the margin/FCF setup has improved enough to make the premium easier to defend.
What Could Still Prove Me Wrong
I would be wrong if FTNT shows the kind of operating improvement I said the valuation needed: revenue growth moving back above 25.0% and staying there, with operating margin holding near 31.3% rather than slipping. I would also have to reconsider if the company turns the current $1.8B levered free cash flow base into something much closer to $2B without sacrificing profitability.
If instead growth stays below 15.0% for two consecutive quarters, that would reinforce my original bear case rather than disprove it. The main thing that could still prove me wrong is a clear reacceleration in the growth line that closes the gap with faster security peers.
